Innovative recycled cork tiles inspired by ancient Japan

Paulo Rocha from Granorte, says: “Cork is an incredibly versatile natural material with many applications. With Tatami, we’ve created another way to use the material in commercial projects. Its strong Japanese signature is timely and brings restful calm, while cork’s natural appeal adds a timeless look to walls.”

The cork used for Tatami is sourced from the post-industrial waste of wine stopper production. Originally harvested from the bark of cork trees within protected forests, the material is natural and renewable. Ground up and turned into Tatami tiles, the material is thermally efficient with good acoustics, as well as resilient. The design of the new tiles has been inspired by traditional Japanese floor mats.

منبع Each Tatami tile is finished with a water-based finish that adds a protective layer for easy cleaning and treated to inhibit the growth of bacteria. The 4mm thick lightweight tiles are directly glued to walls and are supplied in a 600mm x 300mm format.

Available in Midnight, Natural and Light, the wall tile is ideal for creating a cosy and comfortable feeling that has a connection to a Japanese aesthetic.
