Tesla given the go ahead for an LA diner and drive-in cinema

While the company has not yet released any official artists impressions itself, some fans have come up with their own speculative plans, including these 3D renders put together by architect Ed Howard, pictured above. Stantec Architecture, based in Arizona, will be architects for the project, while the contractor is listed as PCL Construction Services Inc., based in California.

Construction of the proposed new Tesla Supercharger facility on the iconic Santa Monica Boulevard is expected to begin soon, after it was given the green light by the city of Los Angeles earlier this month. The original Shakey’s Pizza building on site is set to be torn down to accommodate the new two storey Tesla destination. The plans include 32 Supercharger stalls, a restaurant with rooftop seating and two cinema screens which will play famous movie clips around the clock, according to Tesla CEO Elon Musk. He recently revealed that the new site would have a retro-futuristic aesthetic, tweeting that it would be: ‘Grease meets The Jetsons with Supercharging.’
