World Architecture News Awards 2023 Shortlist Announced

The 102 shortlisted projects in contention for awards across 29 categories come from all over the world, with entries submitted from 16 different countries including Denmark, the Netherlands, Kuwait, Mexico, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates.

Appearing most frequently were entries from practices in China, the UK, Canada, the USA and Australia while the cities with the highest number of projects submitted were London, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Beijing.

This year’s shortlist is as diverse as it is dazzling and includes a state-of-the-art contemporary museum built around a Roman villa, a Shanghai metro station with a wave-like ceiling made up of tens of thousands of aluminium panels (pictured above) and a newly expanded panda research and breeding centre made up of a striking series of elegant pavilions.

Now in its 16th year, the WAN awards recognise the outstanding works of innovative, visionary and imaginative architects worldwide and are considered one of the most prestigious awards schemes globally.

Over the next two months the shortlisted entries will be evaluated by our prestigious team of senior industry judges from across the world. The winners will be announced on November 16.
